perhaps this is one of the biggest adverts for choosing A levels carefully - i can only imagine that drama and theatre studies, and religious studies don't carry the same weight as history or something more traditional (fair or otherwise!)

It's a bit harsh though as he has two English related A levels, must be gutting to be rejected 2 years in a row, would certainly put me off going.Saved: £1566.53/ £20000

Yes but it also says "all my friends have gone to uni", which means its more than likely him, rather than anything else.0

That's true. Just seen your sig, well done on saving that amount! I'd never be able to save anything in a million years :rotfl:Saved: £1566.53/ £20000

I have no job so only have my loan, no chance of me saving :rotfl:Saved: £1566.53/ £20000

I'm not sure there's anything wrong with the A Levels, but I bet his personal statements are interesting reads."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0

I should imagine it's got to be down to that, most uni's wouldn't turn down someone with A's two years in a row.Saved: £1566.53/ £20000

He says he could have researched his options more and I wonder what work experience he has...
If I'd been rejected last year, I'd have gone to all the open days and quizzed admissions tutors this year and I'd also have made sure I got some relevant work experience.
He doesn't seem to have done any of that!
He also wants to go into journalism or teaching which are two quite different occupations so I don't know if his personal statement would be focused enough.0 -
Many A level students now offer 5 subjects. My kids all did 5 subjects and even then, General Studies was discounted. So having 3 subjects, one of which is technically vocational, he will not be as attractive to the redbricks as other candidates with more subjects and core subjects will be.0
