wrong meter reading
i recently got gas installed and was with bg for 1 month and then transferred to npower. The meter reader read the meter as 217 units for one month (units not kwh). I then got a bill for 85 from bg. I had a prepayment meter so i asked how i could possibly owe them cash for one month. Npower then changed the meter from a prepayment to a credit (i asked them).
The guy had read the meter wrong and put the decimal point in the wrong place. Instead of 217 it should have been 35. If you get a big bill you should check yuor reading because it is possible they may have taken the wrong reading.

if you don't give your new supplier a reading, the reading comes from a DC (Data Collector) and they are nearly always wrong.0

I used to work for npower, and the meter readings weren't that unreliable. The Data Collecters are the same people as do normal routine meter readings. If they were all nearly always wrong we would have had serious problems.
It's impossible to know how many are wrong, but a less than 5% I would think. Probably more like 2%.Indecision is the key to flexibility0
