I have purchased a Kingston 8GB micro SD card, I am informed it should store about 7 hours of video footage, and whilst I know someone on this forum who is achieving this mine appears to be only storing about 10% of this.
eg, under properties;-
Used space;- 4.00KB
Free space;- 7.40GB
I deleted everything from the card, free space just short of 8GB.
Earlier I recorded for 7 minutes, useage 652mb.
Another record for 26 minutes, usage 2.02GB.
Therefore usage for 33 minutes is 2.654GB, this gives, (I think), about 80-90 minutes to fill the card, what is the problem?
I spoke to someone at ITJDirect,(suppliers), who informed me I need to adjust the image/capture settings? but I can't find them, I have installed some drivers via a disc that came with the camera I am using and that is the disc/camera he said to use, but there is nothing about image/capture!
Help.

It all depends on the quality (bitrate and codec) of the video. Do you use the card in a camcorder? Then the "7 hours" will most likely refer to the lowest quality you can set.0 -

This is the camera, if you scroll down a bit you will see a window at the side of the camera image where it gives details re an 8GB card.
Someone on this forum with the same camera and card are achieving 10 times what I am achieving.

Have a look in the manual whether you can change the quality settings.0 -
Have a look in the manual whether you can change the quality settings.
The manual is a joke, 6 pages in total measuring 65 x 100mm, (and 1½ of them just pictures), and nothing about quality settings.
On the last page it does state;-
Video format; AVI
Video encoding; M-JPEG
Video frame rat; 30fps +/-1 fps
Video resolution; 720 x 480 VGA
Storage support; Micro SD (TF)
Maybe they can't be changed?Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -

It's as relevant to give the capacity of a memory card in terms of recording hours as it is relevant to give the capacity of a swimming pool in terms of how long it takes to fill up.
e.g. a firehose may fill the pool in 3 minutes, your garden tap might take 5 hours to do the same thing.. but the pool didnt change capacitySomeone on this forum with the same camera and card are achieving 10 times what I am achieving.
Yes and right now youre filling it with a "firehose" setting on the camera quality, set it to "garden tap" and you'll get
a) lower quality video
b) longer recording time
M-JPEG is a storage intensive format. It's taking 30 digital photos a second and saving them one after the other in a single file. More sophisticated video compression methods basically work by looking at what parts of the picture have changed since the last frame and only storing the different bits, which is a huge saving. If the camera cannot be set to this mode by any obvious means, either contact the person who sold it to you or someone else you know with the same device and ask them how to set it. If you cannot set it on your version of the camera return is as "not as advertised"0
