I had a similar experience when trying to close my lloyds account. Went into the branch, queued for 10 minutes, emptied the £3 odd out of the account and asked to close it. Cashier couldn't close it, I had to speak to one of the guys hanging around the front of the branch. Waited a further 10 mins to be told I had to ring up to cancel it, so they let me use their phone in the back office.

Guy on the phone couldn't help me unless I knew the branch that the account was opened with, my parents opened the account when I was a child! How the heck am I supposed to know which branch it was opened in. My mum had worked for them for 16 years in a variety of places, could have been any of 'em. I reeled of a few choices and was basically told that they wouldn't speak to me and i had to go into a branch. :wall:

Finally after waiting again at the front of the branch and bursting into tears through pure frustration the girl took pity on me and "click, click, click" account closed. Took an hour in the branch to sort it. Why was that so hard to do in the first place???
  • I did read a few months back that Money Savings Expert may open their own bank. I would love this. Is they are any plans to do this anytime soon?

For a mortgage application (not with Lloyds) they wanted business and personal accounts - both with Lloyds. We applied on-line, never sent, we applied in branch, never sent, we applied by phone, never sent. It took us 4 attempts and 3 weeks to get the bloody things! No explanation why, no apology. Lloyds mortgage application process was handled by 2 branches as our initial contact went on holiday, her replacement never answered her phone, lied through her teeth and said she hadn't received any voice mails, or missed calls, or texts, and had no interest in us at all. When her colleague came back she was absolutely brilliant.

So we have found Lloyds generally a pain in the backside, but it only takes one bright spark (In Romsey branch) to bring back the faith that if she can do it, why can't the rest.

I just saw a TV advert for Lloyds which finished with 'our bank managers are always happy to help'. I laughed.
We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment

I have business accounts with Lloyds...

Since January they've ignored requests to extend the overdraft, withdrawn the overdraft facility twice in 10d days leaving me with unauthorised charges, unable to pay anyone and no working capital, then wont confirm that its their fault and waive the charges. Had a charge on a mortgage and couldnt decide what they were doing so the solicitor couldnt release the funds for 4 weeks. My bank manage is a f*rt in a trance and I cant stand him!!!!

When we had the bad weather in January I asked to postpone a loan payment to them (only 2 payments left, never missed paid back £32K) and a mortgage payment to them (again only 64k to go never missed etc) No can do!!!! So that pushed me into unauthorised borrowing.... Despite strong reminders from us that we had bailed them out by how many millions??????

Crock of **** the lot of em....

I'm still trying to understand why to withdraw money from my Online Halifax account I needed to go into the branch... I couldn't make the transaction online, or even over the phone (using the various security checks, etc).

Yep, exactly the same thing happened to me yesterday with Barclays. In order to transfer the money from my Barclays savings account to my LTSB current account, I had to go into the branch with my passport.
I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.

Oh Martin; I share your frustration!

I just wished these organisations would sit down and come to a resolution amongst themselves, and once they have found a way forward, they can get back to us with the information instead of shafting customers from pillar to post and making us do all the work for them!

    Does my head in too!

you did right by losing the plot; being fobbed off does not resolve the underlying issue that these people are supposed to try and help you with!!

    rant over!

it's like your damned if you do and your damned if you don't.

Lloyds are full of s***! Many times they've let me down and plenty of times treated me like i'm scum...i keep saying i'll leave but what worries me is the bad reports everyone always has about other banks as well.

It's like i'm in an abusive relationship and i just can't leave! Seriously!

@fedupbankstaff: i've worked in a call centre and feel your pain...unfortunately since as an employee your considered as part of the company your basically in the line of fire which is unfortunate....i wish the big bank bosses could just for one day do your job and realise how frustrated and dissatisfied customers are with their bank!
