Trying to Cancel Citi Credit Card

Hi,

I have been a lurker for ages and I'm trying hard to get my finances in order.

I paid off my Citi card in full last week (£959.62)and have just called Citi card to close my account.

Basically the person I spoke to has said that the system will not allow them to close the account and I have to call them on the 29th of July when my new statement has been generated.

I asked him why but he just kept on repeating himself. I don't mind waiting as i will not be using the card again but I just want to know if this is normal?

He did want me to confirm that the home telephone number and mobile number they have on record is correct, it isn't but I told him that there is no need updating it since I'll be calling to close the account next week.

There will be some trailing interest to pay on your next statement to cover the period between your prior statement being produced and you settling it in full.

Once this has been paid your account can be closed. Pretty standard fare :o

Interest on balances is calculated daily but only applied on the statement date.

This means there may be residual interest still to pay on your next statement date.
  • thanks, I didn't think of that

When I closed my account they calculated the interest wrong and I overpaid by 1p, they asked me if I would like a cheque sent for a refund of the 1p.. tempting! ;)
  • That makes sense it. I just wish the person I spoke to explained it to me.
