Loft Insulation

Hi,

I need to insulate the loft in my new house. There's about 2 inches of old textile waste style insulation in there at the moment so desperately needs it. Now, I know it's the wrong time of year in terms of offers, but does anyone know of anything going at the moment (we live in an area where we are entitled to precisely zero in terms of grants of susidies)?

Also, what's the best option these days without costing the earth? I know there's some non-irritant type stuff out there, but how does it compare cost-wise to traditional fibre based blankets?
