I bought a Medion Windows 7 Home Premium Pc, we have a Netgear DGN2000 router. Come back from hols to find the trial edition of Bullguard has expired. What should I do?

We have AVG free on this laptop and on an old pc in a flat but the old pc runs so slowly and the daily AVG scan takes about 4 hours.

Another consideration is the removal of Bullguard if I try to instal a free protection package is there a removal tool for Bullguard? Will it be difficult?

Should I just pay the £25.00?

The Bulldog pack on offer for £25.00 says:

    • Antispyware – Keep your data personal
    • Firewall – Protect your computer from intruders
    • Spamfilter – Keep your inbox clean
    • Backup – Easily secure your important files

AVG Free is hopeless. Get rid of both that and Bullguard and use Avira or MSE.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I have no experience of Bullguard and cannot comment on its effectiveness or otherwise nor whether you would need a specific tool to be completely free of it if you choose to drop it. The Windoze machines I use are equipped with PC Tools Firewall (Free version) and Avast! (Free version) and we suffer no interruption as a result of updates and have yet to suffer any viral problems. If all you are doing is average surfing then either of these would serve you just as well and won't cost you anything. As an alternative to Avast! there is also Avira (also has a free version) which has equally as good reviews.

As for AVG it was for sometime the antivirus tool of choice for many but it has become desperately sluggish and bloated IMHO. I have to say that unless you were spending hours on the Net per day surfing in "uncharted" areas there should be no need to scan your PC every day.

In terms of the other tools that Bullguard offers - spamfilter, back-up etc these are all available as free tools if you want them. As far as spam filtering is concerned we use the in built junk filters in Thunderbird and have also started to use Boxbe.com as our email provider (free) as this allows us to filter each email source - very slightly time consuming to start with but is proving extremely useful now.
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

Should I install Avast or Avira before using removing tools or after?

You download and save them to a location on the PC.
You then disconnect from the Internet.
Now you can remove the old programs and install the new. When complete, reconnect to the Internet.
    Makes sense doesn't it? :)
