When Sony KD28DL10U TV is connected to a Sony DAV-SA30 no sound output is reproduced!

Options
I'am trying to get Dolby Pro Logic II surround sound from a Sony DVD Home Cinema model DAV-SA30 via the stereo phono audio output of a Sony KD-28DL10U 28in Freeview stereo television, but when I have connected the stereo phono output to the Video 2 audio in jack with a stereo phono lead and I switch off the TV speakers output in the TV menu to output the sound externally thru this input and select the appropriate input mode on the DVD Home Cinema unit,nothing comes out! Can somebody help please?

    What happens if you leave the speakers on the TV switched on?
    Does the output vary with the TV volume control?
    Perhaps you could use one of the Scarts on the TV to provide you with a line out audio signal of a set level. You might need a scart/phono adapter if you havent got one.

    That gum you like is coming back in style.

    I may be misunderstanding what you are trying to do, but you won't get surround sound by using the analogue outputs, unless the TV has separate analogue outputs for all of the sound channels (e.g. six channels for a 5.1 system) - which most don't.

    You need to connect the digital audio output on the TV (assuming it has one) to a corresponding digital input on the home cinema processor, which will decode the digital signal and output to the surround speakers.

    You'll get Pro-Logic 2 surround with stereo, it has unhearable sound coding what should go to the rears and centre. For Dolby Digital or DTS, you do need optical or HDMI. It sounds like you've got you connections right - stereo phono OUT from TV to stereo phono IN on amp. As long as you make sure those connections are right, that should be it. I agree with above, you shouldn't have to manually switch off the TV's speakers. Check the connections again, making sure it's OUT from the TV and IN to the amp, and maybe try a different IN on the amp (doesn't matter what) to check if some sockets are faulty. Otherwise it's a silly setting somewhere.

    NO Dolby Surround information is buried within a 2 channel stereo signal when broadcast or when fed to the TV from a HiFi VHS Stereo videocassette played on a HiFi VHS VCR or linear stereo VHS videocassette played on a linear stereo VCR. This can also come from stereo satellite broadcasts/stereo cable broadcasts and stereo freeview broadcasts as well(these use MPEG2 DVB format digital stereo sound-with digital cable television you'll get stereo as long as you use a stereo phono cable from your STB to the amp or fully wired SCART lead from your STB to your stereo/dolbysurround tv and the channel/broadcast is stereo:and not all channels carried on digital cable are stereo EVEN when they are stereo on satellite and freeview, check with your cable operator). When a DPLII decoder is presented with a Dolby Surround encoded stereo signal from these sources it picks out the surround sound signal buried in it and with the decoder places the speech component in the centre channel, the stereo left and right effects in the front stereo pair and it splits the rear surround information into two stereo surround channels and feeds those to the rear speakers. With stereo non-dolby material the DPLII decoder will attempt to create a surround sound effect from stereo TV programmes splitting the stereo material into 5.1 channels of sound.

    I have found a way to do it;
    Go into the TV's menu and select AV2 output switch this to AUTO, next select TV input on the DAV-SA30 then Dolby Pro Logic II Movie Mode on it. Voila! working. Btw you DO unfortunately have to turn off the TV speaker output in the menu to output the sound to the DVD home cinema thru the stereo phono outputs. Sorted.
