Acer Aspire netbook not charging

Have an Acer Aspire one netbook which suddenly started having problems charging earlier this evening. The pin in the machine seems to be OK (have had problems with that on previous machines). If I hold the charger onto the machine very firmly it seems to be ok but only works while I am holding it.
Does this sound like charger problems or netbook problems? Machine is still under warranty but was just wondering what it sounded like to more experienced people.
Also, do pc shops let you try a charger to see if that seems to be the problem?

If what you call a charger works .. .. .. if you hold it very firmly, its not the charger [ AC adaptor ] is it ? It's that it's not making a good enough contact with the pin inside the laptop case. It's a problem with laptops, people use them on .. er .. their laps / beds / chair arms / etc.
I'll find you in the AM, please do not pay for a new ' charger ' till someone else [ or me ] offers more advice !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Thank you - is probably a bit late for me to be making as much sense as I should be!
I can see it is that the connection isn't working properly - I suppose I was hoping it was to do with the charger rather than needing to have something done to the netbook. Would it be likely to be covered under the warranty?
Although of course I realise you can't actually see my machine and so probably can't work out exactly what is wrong with it :rotfl:0 -
I too have an Acer, it's a laptop and I went and bought a second charger, which proved it wasn't the charger's fault!
So wasted a few pounds on that! So interested what to do next.0 -
Have you looked at www.aspireoneuser.com?Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

Have now looked at that website but don't seem to be able to find anything useful there.0

I had a similar problem with my Aspire One - replacing the charger did work for me.
I'd let you try mine but we are not exactly local!0 -

Its a very common problem with lappies of any brand Acer Toshiba / whatever. 70% + of the time the problem is inside the computer and only 30% of the time with what you call a charger. Of course those percentages may be skewed by the fact that by the time a techie gets to see the machine other people have ' had a go ' at the problem.
- the quick & free way to find out as ' magpiecottage ' says is to borrow a like with like charger and try that, if it works buy a replacement charger.
- if you have, or know someone who has a multimeter just test your charger for output whilst pulling the wire in all directions at both ends looking for a ' flex break '
- if you find your charger is ok then the problem is inside the lappie, some have replaceable modules, some are re-solderable etc.
The first thing you should do is to eliminate the charger [ cheapest solution ] before you go further into the more expensive options. If its not the charger someone is going to have to go inside the lappie and redo / replace the power connector for you and this can cost upwards of £30 ish just to open and close the lappie and does not include any parts purchased which would be extra. The fact of the matter is its almost always user caused :
- - coffee table with heavy charger dangling down pulling on the internal socket
- - inevitable bending and pulling against the internal socket etc
So warranty ? if its still under warranty, the second thing you should do is ask the question and see what your vendors policy is on this reoccurring issue. If they refuse on the grounds of user induced fault the third thing you should do is get someone to open the lappie / check / fix the problem.
Sorry its probably everything you did not want to hear, but you never know it may just be the lesser of the two evil costs !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
