£50 mechanic will charge me for labour.
thats a bargain,i wouldn't touch it for that. as sotsman4th says, rear brakes can bring out some stupid, but highly irritating problems that can take some time to resolve properly.
i used to repair machines that worked in a tannery, very salty damp conditions, the brakes required constant attention, they went through shoes, back plates, cylinders, pipes, springs and cables like nothing else. one tiny set back or problem could mean hours of additional work....work permit granted!0 -
Yes my mechanic charges very good rates, I have been using his service for the past 4 years and always got the best price anywhere I can find. I cringe everytime I read horror stories of people getting ripped off by garages because they haven't found a good honest mechanic.0

keep him in buisness and get it fixed then....work permit granted!0 -
He has plenty of business because of his rates and honesty! Which sometimes means a long wait before I get seen, but its worth the cheap price and honest work.0

Well done OP for getting it so cheap.
Only the other day I paid £40, yes £40 just for a fault code read :O0 -
I got it done yesterday, glad I didnt have the tools to attempt this myself. Mechanic changed the cylinders and shoes, when it comes to the bleeding of the brakes it wouldnt bleed properly, mechanic use a machine to bleed and still wouldnt budge. Master cylinder gone, had to pay £25 for one in the nearby scrappy. Got charge £65 total, car is safely on the road again, thanks everyone for valued inputs.0

That's a good price for that job, especially with the master cylinder needing doing as well.I've done rears pistons on cars I've had in the past and not had a problem, maybe I was just lucky.
Glad you got it done though, I have had a hole in a brake pipe before that caused my brakes to fail(a garage that had fitted new suspension hadn't secured the front brake pipe and it rubbed on the inside of the wheel).I was doing 70mph approaching a roundabout on a dual carriageway when it I found out.At least my handbrake worked, even if it did eventually see me going sideways down the road, at least I stopped withotu hitting anything.0 -
It's actually a brilliant price for the job, even if you did have to source the MS yourself.
And thanks for the feedback, it's appreciated :TI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0
