Just this last week I bought a Vauxhall Astra 08 plate off some guy from autotrader.

The 3 year warranty doesnt end till march 11.

There are a couple of problems like the AUX socket for iphone works sometimes and sometimes not and also the drivers seat have a slight tear at the top.

Will vauxhall fix these under the warranty?

Thanks

The iphone socket thing I suspect will be covered.
The seat is very unlikely to be covered as it's "wear and tear" rather than a fault with the car.

And they could well argue that the socket has been damaged by "misuse" whether it has been or not?!
Yes, probably no chance re the seat.

We once got the back panel of a front seat replaced on a year old car. It had obviously had a child seat in the rear and said kiddy must have kicked 9 bells out of the seat in front. We argued abnormal wear and tear and they paid.

If it's a split you have a chance a cut or tear I'd say unlikely ;)

when i worked at vauxhall the aux input would certainly be covered so long as it was faulty as opposed to damaged, one thing to try is making sure there is no dirt/debris in the socket first.

the seat if it is stitching that is split then they should cover it if it is just ripped then it will be wear and tear.

also if it has not got full service history they may well reject warranty if the check up on the history.

I'm pretty sure they can't do that unless they can prove that the lack of servicing caused the problem, which with dash stuff and interior is very unlikely ;)

  • Hi

The seat probably wont be covered (pardon the pun) but worth checking with your local VX dealership.

My experience is that they can often be more obliging than the folks at HQ?

Some years back, the passenger seat on my Vectra started rattling. I suspected that part of the frame had broken so popped into local dealer (car under warranty).

They said that they were obliged to state that if not due to faulty manufacture, then it may be chargeable, so I contacted VX HQ.

Then followed a conflab with snotty lady who insisted they get lots of cases where seat has been abused e.g. over-weight person etc. I said that I had owned car since nearly new and treated car well. I also asked if Vauxhalls were not suitable for the larger customer - if so, shouldn't their advertising reflect this?

Anyway, no need for my Victor Meldrew hat as local dealer assured me that they personally had never come across one that needed to be paid for - and it was indeed fixed for free.

    Good luck though.

no matter what has failed they can reject warranty claims if not got full service history, regardless if it is something that is checked on service.
they certainly did when i worked for a vx dealer.

not always the case but they CAN reject claims.

Thanks alot for all ur input.

I went down the Pentagon today and have got it booked in for this Thursday. I complained about the following jobs:

    AUX port not working properly
Clutch feeling like its on its way out (may need replacing)
Cover for 12v power socket broken
Both front seat torn slightly from different places.

The guy told me they will check it and if no faults found they may charge me.
Is this right can they charge me just for looking?

Regarding the seats he said they need to refer is to Vauxhall HQ.

Then I disagree with you. They can try.

What you also have to realise is that the main stealer actually wants to carry out waranty work, the importer pays for it to be done.

You quote VX. I had an issue with a just under 3 year old car. Ist VX dealer, oooh we'll have to get the VX assesor out to look at this. Took it across town, no problem, it's under a 5 hr job, we don't even have to ask them. And they did it. ;)

If a non serviceable item fails the service history is irrelevant.
