Repairing dot and dab

I am just about to start replacing my son's bathroom. He has taken the tiles off and this has removed large areas of plaster board (just as I told him would happen). Presumably the best way to repair the wall is by cutting out the damaged area and then installing new dot and dab. As I have never done d & d, I might just batten the wall and dry line it in the normal way. Anyone's thoughts on the subject would be welcome.
I can afford anything that I want.

I would remove all plasterboard and start from scratch. Dri-wall adhesive is easy to use, Very easy to level and straighten off. More prepwork now means less at the tiling stageHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0

If the wall solid underneath or is it an hallow wall?
Is he going to retile?0 -
Just re-coat it/fill in the holes with some one-coat plaster. It does not have to be dead smooth if tiling0

Both the walls concerned are block work. Yes, it will all be re-tiled. The holes are huge, but I had thought that it might just be as easy to put on some rendering. As you say, it is being re-tiled so it does not need to be skimmed. Just as long as it is flat.I can afford anything that I want.
