Q about replacement router transformer

Options
Hi there,
My Netgear router transformer has just died - scarily the neutral pin broke off as I tried to plug it in (must have been loose as the case is all cracked, but honestly..)! Anyway I need to get another one and I have a few questions.
Can I just get another transformer/adapter that has the same spec (15v 1a)?
Will it automatically have the same connection end (into the router) or do I have to specify somehow?
Where would be the best place to look - my boys are on hols with their Dad and come back on Tuesday so it is needed by then (believe me), I don't have a car right now so I'm restricted to small shops in town. (I know you don't know what shops are in my town but is it likely that I'd get one there? no pc world or maplin).
Or do you recommend an internet shop where Id get it delivered on tues?

Thanks for your help guys,
MrsB.

Yep. As long as it is the same voltage and the MINIMUM amperage is 1A then you'll be OK. If you can only find one more than 1 amp, don't worry - the Netgear will only draw as much current as it needs. It may not automatically have the same connector end. You're unlikely to find one in a shop unless you can find one of those multistandard jobbies.

If you've not got one by Tuesday, they're just going to have to like it and lump it. They won't die due to a couple of days without the internet.

You have to be a bit careful here, and look at the label on the old one in detail. Make sure you know whether it's an AC-DC adaptor or an AC-AC adaptor. Most are the former, but I just checked one from a router I have here and it's the latter.

The plugs are a pain, because there are several different size/types, and the two most common ones are very similar in size, but have a different size centre pin hole.

As Hammyman says, the voltage must match and it must be able to provide at least as much in terms of amps. You also need to know which polarity the centre pin on the plug is. Most are centre positive, and this is often shown in a diagram on the label.

Assuming your adaptor is AC-DC, this product from Maplin ~should~ do the trick - it's a bit overspecified in terms of power, but comes with a good selection of plugs, one of which will almost certainly fit.

Alternatively, and cheaper, this should be ideal if it matches your router model number. Note that one is actually an AC-AC adaptor.

Thanks guys, I think I'll order this one . Its the cheapest I can find and is a direct replacement for the model number adapter I have.
Annoyingly, they are on holiday and not posting til 23rd, which is why I didn't order earlier and posted here instead, but ex oh is going to lend me his (its only the kids who use it there) when they return on Tues so the kids will be happy (and me too as I need to be able to apply for jobs online and can't with this).

Thanks also to fwor, for showing me that I have no idea what I am doing and will just get a direct replacement and not try to be clever :D.
