Email provider closure

Hi all,
Not been on this forum and am not sure if I'm putting this in the correct place....well I can't find a suitable category so have put it here. Hope people don't mind.

Could someone tell me where I stand with regards to my email provider closing all email accounts. I am with someone called handbag.com and have tried to get onto it to view an ebay transaction. After numerous attempts, I found that handbag have closed everyones email account!!! I have alsorts of important emails and stuff on there and it has now gone! Are they allowed to do this? Where do I stand with regards to my 'lost' emails. Will I ever get them back? TBH I think it's disgusting that they are allowed to just close your account like that.

Advice greatly appreciated:mad:

Handbag was never an email provider as per the normal definition. It gave a free email to members of the site. For the same reason they could unilaterally withdraw their forum and blog. They are just free extras of a gossip/fashion/health site.

Why didn't you download and keep a backup?

And yes they can do it. Probably the reason for doing it is because they were using too much storage because people left everything on the server

Oh well, I got the wording mixed up! Was only asking really as I just wanted to know if they could do it. Thanks for your response anyway.

KS: The safest thing you can do with your new email address is pay someone to provide it. Either use the one your ISP provides, or look at paying for your own domain (i.e. KS1977.co.uk). I pay 69p a month + £2/year for my personal domain for this with 1 and 1. Then use Thunderbird or Outlook (Express) to download your mail onto your PC.

You should have copies of any ebay transactions in your messages on ebay. If not contact the member
