eon massive gas increase
I have been living in my house for almost a year now. When i first moved in i was paying £50 for gas per month. After a few months this was revised to £64 and this week i have received a letter saying i will start paying £114 per month. What would be the main cause for this? I am in a three bedroom house and was living with two others but now am living on my own. Should i be looking to switch gas suppliers?

The reason for this increase will simply be that your payments were not sufficient to cover the amount of gas you are using.
So you will have built up a debit balance and the new payment of £114 is to cover your consumption and reduce the debit balance to zero. When that has been achieved your monthly DD will reduce to a lower lever to cover your predicted consumption.0 -
It could also be that previous bills have been based on estimates and they now have an actual reading.
Check you bills to see which ones had a E'stimated' ot A'ctual' reading as the closing reading.
If this is the cause then the blame lays with you I'm afraid. Every time you get a bill you should check if the reading is an estimate and is it is you should read your meter and provide it to your supplier. Remember suppliers only have to read meters every 2 years, thats potentially 7 estimated bills.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Hi cmgames,
I think the two pieces of advice you've received from Cardew and spiro are likely to be the answer here.
I'd check your bills historically and see if they were billed to correct readings or estimates, if as spiro points out they were estimates then when we've reviewed the Direct Debit in the past it will have been based on inaccurate information.
If the previous times we reviewed the Direct Debit, the bills were accurate, then the large debit on the account you will have been the fault of E.ON as the Direct Debit has been reviewed incorrectly when we have accurate readings.
If this is the case I'd certainly expect us to set the Direct Debit at an amount that spreads the underpayments over a longer period of time; this will bring the total monthly amount down to a hopefully more manageable amount.
It’s worth calling us to discuss this, a full investigation and explanation should be offered to why the Direct Debit has been increase dramatically. We can then discuss a suitable Direct Debit amount with you.
