Electric meter suddenly using a whole lot less credit?

Hi all,
I have my electric and gas on pre payment meters. Usually my electric costs where around £26 a fortanight, They've suddenly dropped to about £12 a fortnight. We're not using less electric in fact if anything we're using more? Is there something wrong with our meter? We're in a 2 bedroom house.

Is it not because you ve finished paying of a debt attached to the meter ?

It could be, I'm just worried as we've had so many issues with our supplier british gas. We did owe debt on both meters and thought we'd finished paying last year. Our gas meter is supposedly £40 in credit on our statements when we queried this obviously wondering how you can be so much in credit on a prepayment meter we were told we still owed debt? They then said they'd start taking it again but haven't bothered despite phonecalls from us.
