Comet extracare plan

Hi,
I was wondering what people's experience are with Comet's extracare plan? My friend is looking at buying from them and has been in store looking and they mentioned it to her and she isn't sure what to do and whether it is worth it. The item is around £400-£500 I think and the 5 year cover is £160-£170 from memory.
Thanks.
Gareth.

It really depends on the life expectancy of the product.
It will have a one year guarantee anyway.
If your friend puts £10 a month away in a separate account, at the end of year one she will have £120, at year 2 - £240, and on and on.
after five years if no breakdowns she will have saved £600, each year having more than enough to cover any repair. (or even buy a new one) So, saving £600 plus the £160/£170 they would have forked out originally, its a no brainer really.
Even if your friend stops putting anything away after year 2, there would probably be enough to pay for a repair.
I personally wouldnt touch them with a bargepole. They make a lot of money from these sales so they will try to push your friend into buying one.
Hope that helps.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Sometime its worth buying but only if its cheap, something like Richer Sounds where its 10% of the item for a 5 year warranty is very reasonable and a refund if you don't claim.
I certainly wouldn't pay £170 for a warranty0 -
Depends on the level and service from the cover, and how much your friend will require them. For example, if it's a washing machine and the cover includes two free launderette trips a week while it's out-of-action (I know of none that actually do this), then if your friend does a lot of washing it could be worth it.
This isn't a bad idea actually *writes that one down*Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
Comet's Extra Care plan is actually excellent. I'd get it with any product over £300. Hotpoint charged me £150 just to come and look at my washing machine so I purchased a new machine and got the extra care out 5 years for £164.99. It was brilliant, their engineers came out to my house and as they promised there was nothing more to pay and no call out charges. The engineer said if that problem still existed he would write the machine off which means I would get a new one for what I spent which is £535.99 . I recommend the extra care service big time!!!0

I have it for my dishwasher, having had not much luck with two previous ones, I chose a cheaper model this time round and paid for the cover to go with it. I don't think it was as much as £170 though. Anyway, since I have had this dishwasher - just over two years now, they have been out twice and fixed it, both times it was various electrical components which had blown and needed replacing. Anyway, it looks like this machine is going to last longer than it's predessors, so for me it has been worth it.0
