I inherited DD's laptop, with 15.4in WXGA with trulife, which worked perfectly until I left it on the floor open and the dog walked on it. The LCD screen is damaged on one corner, and I'm fed up with it.
I found on online guide to replacing the screen which seems simple enough. I'm quite happy to have a go at replacing it myself, as it would be cheaper than buying a new laptop.
To find the part number, I had to take it apart and it was a Chunghwa CLAA154WB08A. I've found them on Ebay, but I don't actually like the glossy screen. As I only use it for email and surfing, I'd be quite happy to get the cheapest screen I can.
Can anybody tell me if it's possible to buy a non glossy screen or do I have to replace like with like?
If I can, what do I need to look for when choosing one? Any guidance or recommendations would be appreciated?
Also, if I bought one that didn't have an inverter, could I use the one on the laptop?

Thanks for reading.

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Name Dropper
That part appears to be available in both glossy and matte finish - the latter has the same part number.

Don't be tempted by other part numbers just because they are a bit cheaper. The last thing you need to find is that it has a different multi-way connector or whatever.

If the Inverter worked Ok with the old screen it should not need replacing.

As above. There's a trader on Ebay called Analogic. Give them a ring and tell them you want a matte panel for that laptop. Swapping them over is easy. Its easier to seperate the bezel from the lid if you've got a wedge shape bit of plastic you can fit between the two then pull down each side and along the top. The bottom of the bezel might be a bit hard to remove because I think they use double-sided tape there.

Just an update that might help anyone replacing a screen.
I've been told by 3 ebay sellers now that I can't buy a Dell screen by using the part number, as Chunghwa make this model number for various companies with the same model number, but different fittings.

There are a couple of ebay sellers, selling used Dell ones with the part number i have.
Can anyone tell me if the fittings would be the same on all Dell laptops, or would I have to find out the model number that the screen was removed from?

Again, any advice would be appreciated.
