Only just started happening. Normally when I have itunes open and connect my ipod through the USB port it brings it into itunes. Now it just shows a USB mass device icon in the bottom right hand corner. What am I doing wrong?

Ok, I had the same problem, and fixed it own my own. I'm horrible at computers too, so let's take it easy:
plug in your Ipod and but it in Disk Mode: Reset by holding Menu/Middle buttons, then hold Middle/Play until disk mode appears.
Leave it plugged in.
1- Go to Control Panel
2- Open "System"
3- Click "Hardware" tab and click "Device Manager"
4- Find and maximize "Universal Serial Bus controllers"
5- Right click "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver". Click "Uninstall" (If it's not installed, get it with Itunes.)
6- If it doesn't all work out right there, unplug, replug you Ipod and you should be good. Opening Itunes might help I guess...
Thanks. With the ipod still connected and itunes open held down the menu and middle buttons and bobs your uncle all sorted and its recognised it again. Didn't do any of the other stuff about disk mode though. This is the 2nd time it has done it in a couple of weeks now, so should I do the rest of the list just in case?0 -
IF it works now, you shouldn't need to follow the rest of the procedureIn the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0

Hi,
don't really know much about it, only did a wee search and found link, at least you know how to get round it for the time being, maybe somebody with a bit more info will come along.0 -
Thanks for your help. Your absolutely right. I am one of those kind of people that if it works then don't start delving too deep to see what else could be wrong!! So will probably leave it well alone....until it starts playing up again. One thing I have just noticed is that under my ipod in itunes it shows a tick against "enable disk use" which is also greyed out. This maybe the problem I guess as my PC probably thinks its just a USB stick. Anyway I can turn disk use off?0

Hi,
did another wee search and found this, means nothing to me as I don't have an ipod, I just put up with my little Sansa clip, which does the job for me, if I had a car it would be a Mini, who needs a fancy Porsche? :rotfl:0
