Excel Decimal Places In Cells

I know this should be easy and obvious but I just can't get Excel to let me have two decimal places in a cell. I have been through all the drop down
mentions to make sure there is nothing I should or shouldn't have done. In
Tools-options it clearly shows ... 2 decimal places. When I enter a figure ending in 0 i.e. 283.40 the 0 does not show. What can I do to correct this please?

Comments

  • try right clicking on the cell, format cells, currency 2 decimal places (if it is monetary values)
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

    Select the required cell ........

From the bar at the top select "Format" then in the drop down select "Cells".

On the Number tab, in the "Category" list select "Number" then 2 decimal places and select the 1,000 separator if required.

    Click "OK" and job done.

Thank you very much indeed. It worked! Except that on my system it was click cell, format, number and then number again. The correct number then appears in the pane below. I have XP. Don't know if this is the difference.

Incidentally, it was my tax return. Will have to send it off now;)
