I think I've just been conned in to buy a Sunday Mirror.

I don't usually buy it but there was an offer today when if you brought a token into WHSmith, Toysrus or Disney Shop, you got a 'Free Buzz' toy.

Bought the paper and went to Whsmith's this morning. They had hundreds of Mirrors - but only received a small amount of toys. SOLD OUT.

Went to Toysrus and they had sold out too. However I did see a number behind the counter that had been Reserved for staff. Had a word with the manager who said staff were allowed to take the offer up - T&C's didn't say they couldn't!!

So how many hundreds of thousands of extra papers did the Mirror sell, on the back of this??

My little lad had been looking forward to it, so I'll buy him something to do with Buzz. But I feel conned!!

There is no option to write away!!

RANT OVER:mad:

I think this is one the ebayers have been waiting for with baited breath.
Unless they have restricted it to one per customer (and the minimum wage staff have been ultra vigilant these will have been gone in minutes.

Paper for £1 but get a toy which according to my search of completed auctions on ebay has sold for anything up to £8.50 in the last 24 hours.

This may sound harsh but am sure if you look at the listings in details you will see that some of the early birds who hit smiths for paper and toy are clearing hundreds of pounds this week.

A nice little bonus for low paid staff at these outlets. They may be low paid but they arent stupid.

I thought staff were usually not permitted to take advantage of these offers where stock is limited, as it was deemed unfair?

I'd write to the paper saying how disappointed your son was, and how unfair it was that staff were allowed to reserve the stock for themselves.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I remember a similar thing with sale laptops at M&S a while back, when staff had first pickings at sale prices and bought up 90% + of the available laptops, in some shops 100% of the laptops.

If staff are allowed to do that by the shop, then fair play. Anybody who works in retail will know how crap it can be at times (and the pay isn't great). The only light at the end of the tunnel can be the perks.

Sometimes at work during clearance I have to stand by and watch as bargains I'd love to snag work out of the door. If there's a brilliant TV or Hifi system I'd love that's gone down to £200 and the equivalent model that I AM allowed to buy is £400, i've effectively been robbed of £200 of my wages by the company's policy.

These offers are always subject to availability, though, and we all know how much people love Buzz (remember when the first toy story came out?).

The Buzz figures were on eBay yeaterday, with some sellers having several on offer, but were not given away until today. A few shop staff were obviously taking handfuls before they even got near the public. Got one of each with the papers though ;)

I still have the original buzz and woody, bit worse for wear though.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

i'd say this was a stone cold CON. fraud at it's most basic level. i'd write to your local mp, local paper and local council and demand that heads roll over this travesty of justice. also get on to the mirror, toys r us and wh smith and demand compensating for the clear distress and anger it's caused you. i do have sympathy for you*

i bet the freemasons were behind it. them sneaky masons. lining their own pockets at the expense of people like you and me. well, not me, just you.

    *sympathy available while stocks last
    helpful tips
    it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
    their - 'owned by them'
    they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)
