Ok so last night my PC died. Was going to get a new one later on in the year but as its dead (and out of its 3 year aldi warranty) i might as well get a new one now. Now really worth repairing as i was going to get a new one anyway.

Posting off downstairs computer now. Bought my last few PCs from Aldi (Medion) and been very happy with them. Only had to use the 3 year free warranty once and they got it back to me very quick.

Took my eye off the ball in recent years in terms of whats a good spec etc and just wanted your opinions on the following PC. Yes or No?

http://aldi.medion.com/md8345/uk/

In the past Aldi's PCs have seemed very good value for money and like i say i have taken my eye off the ball in recent years in terms of spec but for some reason this seems quite a poor deal.

Opinions? Like i say i have been very happy with these PCs in the past.

Died? If it's a power supply, they are very cheap to replace.

It really depends what you want to use it for.

In the last couple of years I've found it hard to escape the conclusion that many people buy quad-core machines that are far more powerful than they need. A few things (e.g. some types of gaming, video rendering and transcoding) may benefit, but for the average surfer who just wants to check email and do a few spreadsheets and a bit of WP it's overkill.

Normally I'm a fan of Aldi deals, but this one doesn't look too special to me in terms of outright value for money.

What always makes me laugh is how companies get away with stating that graphics such as the ATI 4200 is suitable for gaming, absolutely ridiculous.

As for buying Medion/Gericom pc's/laptops from Aldi/Lidl stores, well from what I see they are usually pretty good value if you just want a basic PC for internet/word processing and a bit more functionality such as burning movies to discs.

3-yr old pc has no way come to the end of it's life. Do your pocket and the planet a big favour and fix it !!!

p.s. I bet it's a higher spec than my desktop that I'm writing this on, it's 6-ish years old and is still fine ;)

Depends what you want from a PC. I change mine at least every 3 years, because I use it for everything from watching TV to playing the latest games in hi-def resolution.

The value of a PC declines very very quickly, much like a car and after a while it just isn't worth throwing money at to a certain extent.

I will agree though that unless the OP has specfic requirements that only a new pc may meet a complete change of PC, might be overkill and a look into fixing it might be better.
