on uswitch BG Click quote is £552, Npower sol is £549

on energyhelpline BG Click quote is £552, Npower sol is £581

I entered same info on both. My first thought is that NPower put their charges on yesterday and maybe one site not got new rates. But I thought it was only the standard rates that went up ( not the sign online rates)

So which one to believe. Do I switch to Npower or BG CLick (current supplier BG)

Energyhelpline Npower sol tariff
Gas 4.510p for the first 1143 kWh per quarter, and 2.149p thereafter
Elec 17.850p for the first 182 kWh per quarter, and 8.075p thereafter

Uswitch Npower sol duel fuel tariff

Gas 3.821p for the first 4572 kWh per annum, and 2.149p thereafter
Elec 17.850p for the first 728 kWh per annum, and 8.075p thereafter

https://www.ukpower.co.uk are showing the NPower price rise on their price updates page, so you are most likely to get an up to date picture there (obviously you can still use uswitch/energyhelpline to actually do the switch). Remember that BG Click prices were not put up with the others - there may be price rise still to come from Click.

Did you enter actual usage figures in kwh for the last year or did you enter your monthly spend?

Energyhelplines rates look wrong to me. For gas for the first set of units, 3.82 is the sign up online rate, 4.51 is the standard rate - I've just checked on the npower website, which is layed out in very complicated way, but the information is there! So they are both similar, which doesn't help you much.....
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)

I used KWH per annum figures.
  • From the electricity rates you have quoted you must live in the Southern Electric area???

The rates you have quoted all relate to SOL (Sign Online) v.6 but the difference is that uSwitch have quoted the nornal SOL rate whereas Energyhelpline have quoted the IGT (Independent Gas Transporter) rate for SOL.

I suspect that these may have been uploaded incorrectly or you selected an IGT option (which I do not believe exists on the Energyhelpline) site.

In terms of prices rises the SOL tariff for new customers since 24th August has not changed - it is called SOL v.6.

Customers who signed up pre 24th August will be on either SOL v4 or v5. These are very different rates from SOL v.6 so for anyone already on an SOL tariff with npower make sure that when comparing you select the correct one as otherwise you will get a compeletely incorrect result.

Just to sumarise npower has five tariffs in operation:

    for new customers
    Standard
    SOL v.6
    Juice

    for existing customers
    SOL v4.03
    SOL c5.02

    Hope that this helps.

Thanks Jasmin (and all )for your detailed reply. Yes, you are right Southern Electric area. But I think I'm even more confused.

Can you explain a little more what a Independent Gas Transporter rate is.

I've just done the quote on Npower site and total price comes out at £549 (same as Uswitch) but the rates it displays are

    npower tariff Rate per kWh:
    domestic Sign Online
    unit rate:
first 4,572 kWh per year 3.639p per kWh
additional kWh per year 2.047p per kWh

Electricity tariff npower tariff Rate per kWh:
    domestic Sign Online
    unit rate:
first 728 kWh per year 17p per kWh
additional kWh per year 7.69p per kWh

which are different to either Uswitch or Energyhelpline

IGNORE ABOVE BIT ABOUT RATES - THOSE ABOVE ARE WITHOUT VAT
  • Hi

Firstly the rates you have seen on nPower's website.

These rates are correct, but they do NOT include VAT whereas all the price comparison sites will show prices including VAT- due to the fact that as a domestic customer you will require to pay this. Its quite common for customer's to query a comparison sites rates due to the fact that almost all suppliers will quote prices excluding VAT as it makes the actual price appear cheaper.

In terms of what an IGT is - have a look at this page http://energylinx.co.uk/independent_gas_transporters.htm this will hopefully explain the whole concept further. Please do NOT use the calculator links on this page otherwise I may be accused of spamming the forum whereas all I am doing is answering your question.
