. His reply was, reports I get from around the country all say we don't want free bus travel.
    .

Well that depends who he is asking.

If it's his core supporters then I suspect they couldn't give a damn about buses at all except when they get in the way of their 4x4s or take up a lane of the road they own.

The interviewer seemed to be of the opinion that free bus passes have been around for many years. In fact in England this has not generally been the case

The interviewer was half wrong and half right. Free passes are a recent change, but concessionary travel for pensioners has been in existence for that last 65 years.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Anyone listen to money box on radio 4 yesterday?
The minister responsible for bus passes, was on their speaking about bus passes. He made it clear he wants them scraped, to him they are a waste of public money. When Paul Lewis said to him, don't you think the benefits the bus pass as given older people is well worth the cost. His reply was, reports I get from around the country all say we don't want free bus travel.

Now all I wrote may not be word perfect, however that is the meaning of it. You can hear it again on the BBC web site.

What you wrote certainly ISN'T "word perfect" - it is WRONG !!

The man on Moneybox talking about bus passes WASN'T a Minister, he was from an independent "think tank".
You obviously ignored Nick Clegg saying "We are not going to scrap bus passes" ..................

    Stop posting rubbish .......................

And, sweey as a nut, that man did NOT say that "reports I get from around the country all say we don't want free bus travel". He was reporting on surveys which showed that the people who use the passes could afford to pay or have alternative transport (eg cars) available to them. (I did wonder what a "pinchoner" was though :))
