renegotiating house price last minute ...

To be honest, if I was the vendor I'd be pretty upset if you came back to me a second time and wanted more money off for the same work. You've agreed a price, they might well have gone ahead and agreed a purchase price on another property based on that price, which they've dropped to cover work you said needs doing - depending on their circumstances, they might struggle to cope with another drop. You have to do what you think best, but equally you have to be aware they might say no.
I agree, there might come a point when they start to think you're not a serious buyer if they agree to a reduction now what's to stop another issue cropping up? Be very careful here. The quotes from builders are a good idea.0 -
There are many threads like this and the main point is always getting an accurate valuation for work required. Often different surveys by surveyors / builders etc highlight different problems / costs. The O.P, like the others, wants to know what is wrong with this building and how much will it cost to fix and she will keep getting different answers. I would get estimates but also keep looking for a property not with at least a decade of neglect and the subsequent problems.0

That was exactly my thought and the last thing I want is for them to think I'm not taking this seriously or trying to take advantage as we're so near the end.
I guess I'm just feeling a bit jittery as it's such a big undertaking ... never been in debt before - never mind 80 grand of debt! I'm a little worried about the house falling apart as soon as i've signed the dotted line ... guess it's part of me being such a cautious person. I'm just hoping the surveyor was trying to be helpful by overinflating the cost of the jobs required.
Thanks for your help guys ... I;m sure there will be plenty more threads posted over the next few months0 -
"the kitchen extention has been poorly built " - what on earth does this mean? It needs knocking down and re-building? It needs re-pointing? It needs a new coat of paint?
Not sure exactly ... dont think they sought proper permission before extending the kitchen and the kitchen extention has been built with the wrong type of brick (smaler brick from what i can gather), which may cause damp (or something to that effect!). Also the rooof needs to be braced.
Off to the builders tmrw. Hopefully this will make more sense to them than it does me!0
