Learning Spanish from home (cheaply)?

Options
It is something that I've wanted to do for a long time. My Spanish is very poor - I can only do numbers up to ten and say hello/goodbye. So I'd need to start right at the beginning.

I'm after some suggestions of the best way to learn Spanish from home. I simply don't have the budget or flexibility to go to college and there is no space for open units in my degree next year.

Is there any (cheap) software or websites that could be recommended? Any suggestions of what to avoid?

  • I've directed someone else here to this website and it may be of use to you, www.livemocha.com.

It's a community where you learn a language whilst teaching a language. Remember that not only the Spanish speak Spanish, you have the likes of Argentina too.

Thanks, I'll have a look at that website. One of the reasons why I'm interested in learning Spanish is that I have a friend from Peru. I'm planning on going over there in the next year (money permitting), so would like to know some Spanish. I don't really want to rely on him teaching me!

Try coffee break spanish. You can download the pod casts for free from itunes. they are also on facebook and have a website
    http://radiolingua.com/shows/spanish/coffee-break-spanish/

you can get more advanced and indepth materials if you pay, but the free stuff is really really good.

I'd recommend Michel Thomas Spanish. Enjoyable and addictive. Very easy and you make very good progress relatively quickly.
