Slight glitch....but not beaten yet..

Have almost completed connecting my Netgear router, (i am on aol gold), and got my laptop to work wirelessly :j , so after reading about wireless security on a different thread,i went onto IE and typed in http://192.168.0.1 and i was going to change from WEP setting to WPA, but then changed my mind as i didn't really know what i was doing , but i did change to stop broadcasting my SSID thingy.
Anyways the out-come of this is that i can now connect to the internet via IE which i have never ever done before( i always use AOL), but now i can't get on to aol at all.
What have i done, i want my aol back, it's got all my stuff on it, help......

( when i try to connect to aol, it says there is no device):o

  • when you say connect to aol ,do you mean connecting to aol with your laptop,if you do then ,remember your router now connects to your aol connection and your laptop connects to the router

The advantage of using a router is that your router connects and maintains your connection to AOL meaning that you don't have to use their pathetic nannywear software.

You should really change to WPA-PSK as WEP is easily cracked and hence not secure!

I would delete all connections that aol software has already and then auto detect new connection.

Should pick up that you use a router to connect..

Plus if you use aol you need to change your MTU from 1500 (to 1458 i think)
    Hope that helps..
  • ok, thanks for the help but, i'm officially dead meat,

how do i change MTU ?
if i don't post anymore, take it that i'm no longer breathing

Login to your router. Click WAN Setup, and change the MTU size to 1400 (for AOL). Click apply, and you're done.
