I've lost Yahoo Messenger!

I suddenly lost my Yahoo Messenger; have no idea why, it just kept presenting me with the sign-on screen but, when I clicked the 'sign-on' button, nothing happened. I've re-installed it but couldn't use my old Yahoo name so I had to choose a new one. I can access Yahoo but still can't get Yahoo Messenger, even with my new name.
I use Yahoo Messenger a lot and also own a Yahoo group, which I can't access either now.
Has anyone got any idea why I lost it, and also why I can't get a new one going?
I use Windows XP, and usually Mozilla Firefox as a browser.
