Sony W50 OR Casio Z600??Please help

I'm goning to buy a digital camera, I've waited long enough and want to get in before Christmas prices come in. My options are;

Sony W50
2.5" LCD
6 megapixel
3x optical zoom
etc.

It has more internal memory and a Carl Zeiss Vario Tessar Lens (good thing?) but needs funny memory sticks and I have SD cards coming out my ears.

On offer for £122.88 from amazon

"OR"

Casio EX-Z600
2.7" LCD
6 megapixel
3X OPTICAL ZOOM
etc.

It has the emotional appeal for me, it has a bigger LCD screen and is slightly smaller (i really want a small one), takes SD cards, but its a casio!

Price inc discounts: £134.99 from jessops

I know people say you cant really trust casio cameras but this is quite highly rated by both cameras.co.uk (scored 82) and steves digi-cams, he rates it as one of the best out of the 6-10 mexapixel range on his "Best Cameras" bit.

So I need help to decide, has anyone got either of these cameras? Had any problems with them? Or just give me some good advice, I really need it because I'm so indecisive! I've been looking for a camera since early may, meant to be part of my b'day gift - my birthday is the 6th may!! - please help

  • Hi

I am in a very similar dilema. Looking at the Casio 700 (new ) or the Sony. Reviews I have read are all good about the new range of Casio's exilim cameras. Looked at both in Jessops and much preferred the look and feel of the casio.
Totally agree on the flash card who wants memory sticks when we all have SD cards. Don't worry about the internal memory your memory card will have sufficient of you use a 1GB.
Casio bring out a new camera every 2 weeks at the moment, which i do find unsettling, but based on the same emotional attachment i am going to get the EX700 (or maybe 600) - based on
    Reviews
    SD card
Battery Life (no need for second battery)

  • Hiya,

Thanks for the reply! I've agree with you, there will only be a marginal difference between the casio and sony - picture quality wise - and when taking holiday pics and snapshots, no one will ever be able to see the difference, that is if there is a difference.

And if you prefer the looks and fell to the casio and the emotional appeal is there then you will be sure to be happy with it, more s than the sony. Plus it has a cute little docking charger and a massive LCD!! Plus all the other things like the SD card and long battery life like you said. I think you have made the right decision.

I'm waiting for my casio Z600 to come through the post, either today or tomorrow, and after I've had a play on it I will come and tell you how good it is probably!
