I want people dancing on my website!

Options
hi all.

If you visit this website cherry.com and look under the people tab, you'll see a bunch of folks dancing and if you click on a person a larger dancing image appears. does anyone know how it's done and what software you would need. i want to use the idea to liven up a section of a website I manage, but as we're a charity, money is an issue. So I'm toying with the idea of a DIY job.

Many thanks

Awful website. Pain in the bum to navigate, won't load on firefox. I can't even find the people tab in IE.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

I think he's specified the wrong site.

www.cherry.com is a single flash intro and a few pdfs according to google and I can't get the basic site entry to work at all with firefox or chrome

    Won't load in Safari either.

I don't have internet explorer on my mac so the wonders of Cherry.com will be lost on me. Not really that impressive.......

if you do site:cherry.com on google you may find the link to the swf page will let you sample the joys - that works after a fashion in firefox. Of course being a mac maybe you don't have flash support anyway?

See nothing apart from download Flash.
30% of the world's population ruled out straight away, will never see the website.

Oh well, does not work in Opera either

I would ignore it, as Chunter says, a very significant minority will never see it any way

Wow - I thought designing websites for specific browsers was only something Microsoft did these days. Can't find the link mentioned - but would guess its either Flash or jquery.

    Found it!!

It's on page two of a google search. Just after the russian brides site :D.

    www.clevercherry.com

Cherry.com now owes three minutes of my life back. I can't believe that someone is still maintaining that site. Created in 1995.....expires in 2018

Edit: Just to have a crack at OP's original question. It's a matte screen process to get the actual dancer, and the video is then embedded into a flash layer.

As you are a charity, I suspect you will have none of the equipment or software to do this at the office. I suggest however that you approach the media studies lecturer at your local art college and suggest that one (or a group) of their students try to recreate something similar for you as a project. You may find they are glad of a new idea to keep them interested, and most colleges will already have all you need.
