    You can claim IS if SSP is in payment. Most IS claimants are lone parents or carers but there are other groups of people who can claim IS, people in receipt of SSP is one such group.

    Robbie is right here - SSP is still a qualifying condition for Income Support and IS should be claimed until SSP runs out.

    At that time ESA would then have to be claimed as there would be no qualifying condition for IS.
