Driving to London & Parking

Hello, not sure if this is the right section for this, but i am hoping to take the kids to London in the summer holidays, and was thinking of going by national express. But was thinking i hate being stuck to timetables and was thinking of driving to as near as possible and then getting a bus into the centre. We are going to be travelling from Bournemouth, and wanting to visit Madam Tussuards and maybe the national history museum, so any ideas guys on where to park etc... Thankyou x

Maybe not the answer you want, but I would never drive into London, let alone park. Just too stressful and expensive, and as you're planning several stops during your visit you'd have just as much travelling around to do once you get there.

Travel after the morning rush hour on South West Trains you can buy an Off Peak Travelcard (return train travel and zones 1-6 bus and tube) for £24.30 (a bit cheaper at £22.40 for the Super Off Peak). Better still, I think you can still add a child's Travelcard (all train, tube and bus travel) for just £1 each. You'd need to check how many children per full paying adult however... SouthWest Trains telesales are on 0845 6000 650 (option 2)

Provided you avoid the peak rush hours, there are no restrictions as to which trains you can take, and there are frequent departures to/from Bournemouth. My tip for a stressfree day is to avoid the tube (never easy with kids, especially in the summer time)... the buses are comprehensive and more fun for the kids.

Megatrain from Bournmouth to Waterloo may be attractive at from £1 per head each way depending on dates.

Ok, you are stuck to a fixed timetable, but at that price...

I would definately check as those prices seem miles out £55.50 per adult and £27.75 for kids, drops to £36.65/£10.55 with a railcard and another tenner if you leave after 10

We sometimes do this if we fancy a day in London, we usually drive from Lincoln to the most northern zone 6 underground station, park somewhere round there then tube the rest of the way. London is the only city I would ever give up my car for
