Does anyone have a Panasonic Lumix digital camera? After looking to update our crappy samsung one, this seems quite favourable, but there are quite a few to choose from - can anyone suggest one that they couldn't be without? I am after really clear, bright pictures, pretty compact to take on holiday. Must have video feature, and zoom..... I know there are lots of people who ask advice on digital cameras on here - but I'd be grateful if anyone had an experience of this camera... Thanks

I've got an outdated model, the FX30, and, coming from Pentax 35mm SLRs, and a Pentax Optio compact digital, the Lumix gets my vote every time.

Good battery life with the original battery.
Leica lens, so assured of good optical quality.
Digital zoom to 14.3x as well as optical zoom.

...and a host of other features.

I haven't tried the newer Lumixes, but if we assume them to be an improvement on this one, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

Hubby has a Lumix FZ28 and loves it - we bought a spare battery but never really used it, the battery life is very good.

I don't know anything about technical features but he is always complimented on his photos!

Also a happy FZ28 owner here (brilliant range of zoom from wide to super-tele and auto stabilization) and have a 2nd Lumix for OH's handbag.

Since Pana started chip-locking its cameras to its own approved and expensive batteries I have gone off them a bit - seems counter to money saving principles (we like to carry spare batts on long trips).

Also, I've decided than any future replacement must have gps built in to auto tag the location where every pic was taken.

Have a DMC-TZ5 Loved it until it got soaked in red wine @ brothers wedding ;(
looking to replace with another Panasonic soon - very easy to use and with bits like snow setting, sports, beach and fireworks settings its a fab all round camera. Video is great deals well with kids plays and music performances!
Even though it has got soaked in wine it is still being used and it was fab at the superbikes a few weeks ago and got some fab "fast" shots!
    hope that helps.

Yep, had an FX12 and now got an FS12. They're both quite low-end, but very good indeed.

I had a TZ3 until a year or so back - best compact camera I've owned, ticks all the boxes for me. Big optical zoom, image stabilisation and good macro mode.
My sister borrowed it and won't give it back; I guess thats makes two recommendations :rotfl:

Panasonic TZ6 user for the last year and very happy with it. It has a quality Zeiss lens and takes great images. Video and sound is also surprisingly good for a compact camera and beats my old Canon Ixus hands down. I would have liked more manual setting options but I knew the limitations before I bought and went for it for image quality and 12x zoom. If buying now I'd go for another TZ (prob the TZ8) without hesitation.
  • I have a panasonic TZ7 camera and it is fab, really clear pictures and easy to use. I have a DSLR but couldn't be without my TZ7 for holidays and it also has a HD video mode :)
