16-25 Railcard day before turning 26

I know that the rules on this allow you to buy a one year 16-25 railcard the day up to your 26th birthday but does anyone know if this can overlap with an existing railcard?

i need to renew my current one this week and then buy another one in april next year before i turn 26 to get an additional year, so technically would have a 3 month overlap. just wondering if your id details (passport number, driving license number) are stored on the system thus preventing you buying multiple ones. or could i get around this by using a different address or something if it is a problem

You can just buy your new one when you want to. No need for anything like different addresses etc.

You just present the form/photo and id as if you are buying a new card.
  • And to clarify Quentin's answer further, yes you can buy a 16-25 railcard the day before you turn 26. After that you'll have to do what I did and go back to university :D (mature students can apply for the railcard during their studies, although only one year at a time and only in person at a station)

I once lost my railcard before travelling and the cost of buying a new ticket was more than buying a new railcard (and photos etc.) so I just bought the new card, nobody questioned whether I had one and when I said I had lost mine and whether I was allowed to buy one the guard just said that it would be cheaper to get a replacement if I had the receipt from when I bought it (I didn't.) so yes, to my knowledge there is nothing stopping you from buying a new one.

Can mature students also apply for a card the day before their ISIC card expires?

As long as the rest of the form is completed (the bit the college has to fill in) the ISIC vard is still valid with one day to go, and it just has to be valid, there's no requirement for it to have any particular "life" left on it.

Are you sure it's only a one year one you can buy? I thought you could get a 3 year one!

You can, though 3-year Railcard can only be taken up until the day before your 24th birthday (mature students can only buy 1 year cards)
