O2 iphone plan didn't work out
Options
Hi,
9 months ago I took out an 18 month iPhone contract with O2.
The advice on the site at that time was to go for the £45 a month contract and then downgrade to the £35 a month contract 9 months later as the phone was £100 cheaper to buy in the first place, meaning you had a £10 saving overall, with an enhanced number of minutes for the first 9 months.
So - followed the advice.
I'm coming up to 9 months into the contract, so I phoned O2 today to downgrade to the £35 a month tariff.
It turns out that o2 have now changed their tariffs, so that now they have a £40 a month tariff.
As you can only downgrade by 1 tariff, I'm only allowed to downgrade to the new £40 tariff, which only has the same number of minutes as the original £35 a month tariff.
Net result - £5 x 9 months = £45 extra cost overall.
Are O2 pulling the wool over my eyes?

I don't think the O2 site advised that really
You have to do the maths and work out what is best for you, some will go to far lengths to be the owner of an iphone, simple maths suggests no matter which way you go contract or payg 18 or 24 month, the costs come back to the same bar a few pence or £s over the duration, hardly seems worth the saving
If you are not going to do anything with the £5 month saving, then it's best to stay as you are, I suspect the £40 tariff does not include picture messages at 1mms=4 texts, where as your current tarrif may well do.0 -
O2 do give you the option to "buy out" your iPhone contract for £20/month. If you've got the money, you could always do that and then go for a 12 month iPhone sim only deal at £15 per month. That's the same saving but you do need quite a bit of cash now to do it.In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0

With O2 you can only go down one tariff at a time, its not that you can only go down one tariff. So go down to £40 tariff and then go down to £35 tariff the next month.0

I hope Martins "advice" for this has been removed...0
