I would guess it is a fairly old motherboard (like mine!) if it takes SDRAM.

It may not be able to take 512Mb sticks (mine doesn't).

Try the Crucial System Checker and that should tell you what size of sticks it will take.

EDIT Just looked up QDI Advance 10F on there and 512Mb is OK.

Try downloading and running PCwizard and it will give you information about your motherboard and RAM fitted as well as lot more info.

I had a similar problem with a stick someone gave me. I tried all combinations but it wouldn't work. After about 12 attempts I decided to turn on the computer one last time before giving up and it suddenly worked ok and has done since. I'm guessing that there was a bit of dust in the slot or the pins weren't making proper contact.

REmoe your older memory and try the new one on its own to try and prove the memory works or not. make sure its the right way round, it shouldnt go in the wrong way but an MSE user did manage it a few weeks ago and check the clamp at each end is locking the memory in place.

if the pc has a problem with memory it will beep to tell you
beep break beep break beep the beeps and breaks are about 1 second in length each they never stop and the pc wont boot untill you turn it off.

trying the memory in diferent slots just incase 1 of them is damaged is another good idea.
unfortunalty the memory type is getting on a bit and not alot of people use it so you may find it dificult to find a mate that you could try it in his/her pc.
    good luck

I have tried it on it's own. Just beeps and wont boot. Will try it again, and if it doesn't seem to wanna work, then will have to email the seller.

    Thanks for everyone's help!!
