Move off British Gas 'Standard' Tariff: Save hundreds in minutes, no switch
For British Gas customers (and we are legion!)
I have a feeling this is somewhere in the threads, but worth highlighting perhaps again -- if you are on the 'Standard' tariff for British Gas it is much higher than other tariffs. Just go on their website, register, log in and work through their comparison offers. You'll have to dig a bit (obviously they're not advertising that you can get the same service for less without even switching companies). For example, my energy spend for gas and electricity (big house in a cold place) was £2000 last year, with a 'Web' tariff of some sort it dual fuel charges drops to about £1600. You will need to commit to monthly direct debit, online bills, etc.
I got suspicious when the bill said the 'Standard' Gas and Electricity tariff was 'our most popular'. Well, no doubt popular with the company as it charges you more for exactly the same thing ... I am still just amazed at how you have to fight to get a fair deal with British companies and annoyed I didn't check this sooner (I guess I've been overpaying for years). So please check it and save yourself money, don't be a mug like me for years ... Also you can use USwitch to compare a wide range of suppliers, which is handy, but it turned out I could stay with the same supplier AND save money which saves on hassle.

Why are you singling out 'British' companies, is Obama your relative?
You will find that all energy companies operate in the same way.
FYI EON is German and EDF is French.
Pleased you got a better deal though. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

Fair point, Penryn and Moonrakerz ... should have just said 'fight to get a fair deal with companies' ... not a particularly British thing (as I recall some fun times with companies around the globe, including Intourist and US cable companies ... )0
