Can't save any more bookmarks on netbook

I've got a Asus EEE netbook, linux system, Firefox browser. I have about 20 bookmarks saved but suddenly it stopped accepting any more. They looked like they were there after I'd "saved" them, but on next login the new ones had disappeared from the list.
Tried clearing a few out in case it was "full" but it's still not working.
Any ideas please?

I'm just selecting "Bookmark This Page" from the bookmarks dropdown menu. then clicking on "Add". I always feel it should acknowledge in some way that it has added it, but it just sits there until I close the box. If I look at the bookmarks list at that point, the one I have just saved is at the bottom, but as I said before, next time I log in it's gone.
Will have a look at your link....I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

As I feared, that looks mighty complicated. Glad I asked though, as it shows it's perhaps a common problem and not just me.
With my skill level I think maybe I'll just accept the status quo and iGoogle when I want to find something I haven't managed to save.
Handy to have that link though, it might help others if this is a general problem. Grateful for your help. :TI haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Hi,
if I'm just saving a site because I might want to look back at it soon I just click the star in the address bar and it is saved in the unsorted bookmarks folder at the bottom of the list,
but if I want to keep the link I click bookmarks, bookmark this page, then change the name to a shorter name, select a folder and then click done, have you tried it that way?
Just had a count and I've got aboout 200 bookmarks, so maybe time for a clean out.0 -
I don't seem to have a star in my address bar.
Yes I think I'm doing the "save" routine same as you. Oh well, it's not the end of the world.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe
