New BT decor phone upsets web signal

I have an ext cable from the main bt socket that goes direct to the pc. Recently the land line hand set has been playing up so we bought a new bt decor phone but when it is plugged in the @ light on the live box flashes and I lose the web signal, it's okay with the old phone but plays up with any other phone I plug in as I have tried another as well. Also if I plug the other phone at the computer end of the ext cable it works okay ?? only plays up if plugged in at the main bt socket ?? Any ideas?? Thanks.
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

Presumably the phone plug does have a DSL filter on?

I stand corrected I had the filter wired wrong, now it's right it works as it should. Thanks for the advice... :T
