Thx again andy, Went to local toppstiles. They do 600x1200 hardie boards for tenner each. Works out similar price as the 25 mm ply . Can the hardie board be glued on top off quarry tiles, or is the levelling compound still required? If no need for the weberflex, does that mean I dont have to concern myself with difference in lateral movement?
You need 6mm Hardibacker boards not the 12mm, usually come in size 1500x900
Yes it can go onotop of quarry tiles, would personally score tiles with grinder to help with bondHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -

Hardboard is not suitable for use as a tiling substrate
No manufactor of tile adhesive will advise the use of hardboard, nor will they give any form of warranty, If you find a tiler willing to use hardboard please show him the door
British Standards say minimum of 15mm plywood for overboarding
While your floor may not have moved, i have replaced many that have, Poor preperation and wrong materials will often lead to premature failingHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
Andy, got the board dimensions wrong: toppstiles sell 6mm board in 1200 x 800 mm.
Shop assistant gave me an installation leaflet as well; can I assume you have to prime the floorboards before applying the adhesive with 6mm notched trowel ?
Once you screw/nail the board on wet adhesive, is it simple to ensure the board remains even and level ?
It also say you have to put alkaline resistant jointing tape on top of the joints. It it easier to do this as you lay the board or after the adhesive has set ?0 -
Is it worthwhile ripping out all the floorboard and putting 25mm ply instead ?
Thats exactly what I did in my kitchen recently. Everything up and relaid with 25 ply before tiling.
The tiler commented it was one of the best prepared floors for tiling on he had experienced.Mortgage free

I am considering doing that too; just want to understand all the in's out outs' off going down the hardie board route. trying to decide i plyboard is the simply option especially as the sheets come in bigger sizes, fewer jointing, just need sealing on underneath and priming on the top.0
