how can one compare a freeview box for £23.00 with the sony?
Is it not a case you get what you pay for?

if it doesnt work or if you dont like it(if you dont like it say you bought it for soemone who had got 1 themselves) you can return after 1 week of buying or 5 weeks, keep the receipt as its the 1 year guarantee

i got one this morning and it'll be going back, prefer my M&S box

bad points:
- box makes an aweful hissing sound when on and in standby (M&S one does this but not as loud) which can be clearly heard when TV off
- 7 day EPG only shows details for the next few hours on each day based on the current time, so cant see what's on later this evening let alone tomorrow evening, next evening etc.(it actually let me look forward into December but didn't show anything) No current channel window shown in this mode
- remote has to be pointed directly at box to work

good points:
- volume adjustment via remote
- seems fairly responsive
- now/next EPG ok and shows current viewing channel in window
- RGB o/p
- twin scart
- several widescreen settings when viewing on 4:3 screen... full, compromise(similar to terrestrial transmission) and 16:9

I bought one and I have to say i am quite impressed!

It does have 7 days program guide but initially this didn't seem obvious until you read the instructions. Yes,it does have a hiss when in standby but i didn't find it bad,I slept ok with it in my bedroom.

It has a full 3 year G'tee. I think its very good for the money

yes I read the instructions but the 7 day EPG does not work properly IMO. I tried the 7 day EPG at approx 1pm and it would only show me details on each day for approx 1pm-3pm, everything beyond that was empty... so if you're planning your evening viewing earlier in the day then you're !!!!!!ed - my M&S (sagem ITD62) box 7 day EPG shows everything for the rest of the day regardless of the current time - maybe I've got a duffer

I could see program line ups through to Thursday(from Sunday)and thereafter it states no program details. I think it loads the the program guide while the unit is swtiched on and will update next time you use it. I would suggest leaving it on a couple of hours to see if it downloads further future days listings!

thanks, I did try that but no joy didn't even load the full days listing for today let alone future days

Pay an extra £1 and get the new durabrand one from ASDA it has a stand that lets it sit vertically. I've had around six freeview boxes between myself anf various family members. this one has the 7 day epg, and the best range of pick up i've experienced.
