Aldi Freeview Box £23.99

Aldi are doing a freeview box with three year G'tee for £23.99 starting from Sunday the 10th of Sept. Does anyone know if they are any good?

I could be wrong but from the picture it looks similar if not the same as my old Technosonic one. If it is then I can't fault the box never had any problems with it but the remote was rubbish. Remote in the picture on Aldis website is the same as the Technosonic one which runs on those cells batteries and, not sure whether it was just me, but they give up the ghost really quickly and you can't use the unit without the remote. Also on mine the buttons just worked when they feel like it.

Having said that this one might be competely different to the Technosonic one so maybe best to ignore me :p

I agree that it looks like the technosonic (2014 I think) - I have two of these and they are fine (no remote problems either) - just lacks a 7 day epg in my version - does the Aldi have newer firmware ?

It doesn't say if its a 7 day epg. Does the technosonic have a epg at all and if so what period?

It seems like a good buy given the 3 year warrenty. You can of course take it back if not happy under the Aldi returns policy

It has an EPG of the "now and next" variety

what is aldi retuns policy? I couldnt find it if you can guve more info please
  • I bought one of these last year and the remote is a little bit small and just had now and next PG, I was hoping they had the versions that they had late last year and in May this year ALTHOUGH £3 more they have a great 7 day EPG which is much better than any other I have seen in any other shop, unless you know otherwise then let me know
  • Does the remote also do the volume?

I would say the cheap freview boxes are a false economy, slow to respond and awkward to use, I would get the Sony one.. very nice and very fast

Aldi electrical stuff is all German imports and they don't have the UK EPG, so you just get now/next program.

Any idea where to get a new one from?

Sony have stopped making the freeview box (vtxd800u) - they only make pvrs now starting from about £200.
