Elec meter moving even when off!

Did a search, couldn't find info on this, from you wonderful ppl.

Recently revamping kitchen, turned power off, and elec wheel was very slowly still creeping around! Is there any explaination for this, e.g. is it incorrectly calibrated? Is something drinking my elec?

There is an automated radio switch thing next to it, but I don't know what that is for? Could that be taking some?

COuld I effectively have been overcharged for ever and ever? Shame, if so, as I've just moved to Powergen from BG, so Powergen certainly wouldn't compensate me!

Any ideas, or advice appreciated...

J

If you turn the electric off at the fuse box for all the house then it shouldnt be moving, unless like you say you have a transmitter thats drawing power maybe its a device for remotely reading the meters ?

Simple things first the radio teleswitch is there to switch you over to cheap rate night units( economy 7), it might also turn on your storage heaters if you have them. Have you got a dual rate meter?
I would not have thought it would be taking much power.

Of course! WE are dual rate/econ7, so that explains the radio switch, but it shouldn't be drawing power really should it?. Who would I take this up with? I suppose Powergen (new supplier since June!) or British Gas (who probably own it all - and I was with them for 5 years previously!)

certainly would seem on the surface, an arguement for some investigation and rebate!? i'll report back, if and when I get news.

    Further advice welcome...

I would have thought it had to draw its power from somewhere, that somewhere being your supply.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Indeed, but maybe it should be connected before the meter.

Does anyone have any idea how much electricity is actually being used here? That wheel might have to go around 3600 times just to burn one unit.

The switch you used to turn off the power is it downstream of the radio switch? is it on your fuse/trip box? do you have fuses or trips? Apparently some trips can take power but if the red switch is off they should not be consuming anything.

Sounds to me like you have nothing to worry about here, sounds like, as you say the radio switch is consuming power.

btw http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=2102672&highlight=turning+meter#post2102672 <<<< A work in progress....there should be a specification on the meter saying what amount of power one disc revolution equals.

How many units does it use per hour/day/week when the supply is turned off?

Sorry for ignoring comments, been away from MSE for a while! Powergen have agreed there is an issue worthy of investigation, and are visiting soon, to diagnose. Thanks for your help. I have to confess to not having checked the quanity of units used, or calcuated from speed of rotation, as it takes so long to reset all the clocks and stuff in the house! I'll report back later.
    Thanks again,
