I'm sorry, I'm not sure I understand. There was no agreement to short settle bu they have admitted liability to failing to close the account once you paid less than you owed?
I work in a collections complaints department and from my experience no bank would accept a reduced payment on a balance without defaulting the account.
Regarding the credit file issue, if your employer carried out a full disclaimer credit search they might see that someone you are financially linked to has poor credit, I'm assuming you hold joint credit facilities with your partner?

We received a high level of harrassment over an 18 day period due to a computer error ... in total 108 call some of which were very rude and threatening, constant charges placed on the account as the computer had stated we weren't paying but we were and can prove it.

We have also recently paid off two another credit cards with a reduced payment of 90% of the outstanding balance and closed the accounts fully .... no defaults. I understand there is a ruling with some companies to accept 90% of the balance as a final payment.

Citi accepted a reduced payment as goodwill due to the harrassment and stress caused but didn't go through with their end of the deal. Hence the problems with the credit file and their offer of compensation.

My partner and I share a mortgage and a loan together so I assume this is how they connected us. The only issue on either is Citi so this must be the reason.

Surely your new employer would have run the credit check on you BEFORE offering you the post.
If not I would be asking them why not - Citi might not be the only one I would want to sue for lost earnings.

Something is very amiss here a default would not impair you from working in the financial industry.
Did the letter containing your contract of employment state anything about running a credit check on you after acceptance?

The 90% ones maybe an issue, they will show a partial settlement flag. So you would have to prove also that these were also not the cause

I was aware a credit check would need to be run for the job ... I assumed they had done it before I started (would have made more sense). I didn't believe there was a problem so said it would be fine.

The 90% settlements are on the credit file as settled - no partial settlement. There is no other problem on either of our credit files everything is uptodate or settled.

Was after advice and opinions on the amount of compensation to request from citi. Am considering explaining the situation and quoting my rate of pay and let them come back to us with a figure first?

You need to get it in writing exactly why you are been forced to leave before claiming compensation then go and see a solicitor pronto.
Anybody can pick a figure out of thin air but getting it is another matter.
