this is totally over my head. I have 3 pc's in the house and all connect to the internet via my cabel&wireles adsl 11g router.
In my wireless connection tab it says that my Cabel and wirless is an unsecured wireless network ....... meaning that my neigbours could connect to my pc or internet via my router( is that correct?) I do see another connection (BTvoyager) that is not mine, must be a neigbour, but that is secure.
How do I make mine secure ??
How do I setup a home network so we can share files and printers ???
Thanks in advance for any help and advice ............... please keep it in idiot form, as I said, this is all new to me :-(

If you post the model of router you have, maybe someone with a similar model can guide you through it.
Essentially you need to go into the wireless settings and enable encryption.
How differs from model to model0 -
I think its (says on the box) ADSLR10CW3
hope that helpsMSE:-)MoneySpendingExpert (-:0 -
I don't know if this is the correct gateway for that router, but try clicking here --> http://192.168.0.1 <-- and enter admin for the username and 1234 for the password. You should then be able to set wireless security on the router's config pages.
If that URL doesn't work, let us know and we'll find the default gateway for your router.0 -
The easiest to find the default gateway is to look at the status of your network connection .. on win xp -> Control Panel -> Network Connections -> you LAN .. right click and choose status .. click the support tab.. you'll see your gateway .. but I do think it is http://10.0.0.20

I am not very good with all this either, when I had this with AOL I phoned the help desk and they talked me through it. You have to have a code you want to use that contains 13 numbers and letters and a name you want your network to be called.0

Don't know the specifics for your router, did it come with an install disk, which may run you through the encryption procedure. There are some general principles in these threads..
I'd make sure you encrypt it before setting up file and print sharing, because you may end up giving everyone in the street access to every file on your hard disk.

that takes me to the router instalation ...... what do I do next, I get a page with my username and password if I click submit it just asks if I wana reboot only or reeboot and save and both options just do that and nothing else. When its done I get a page saying complete.
my IP address is 10.0.0.3 but when i type that into the address bar (http://10.0.0.3)i get "this page cannot be displayed" message.MSE:-)MoneySpendingExpert (-:0 -
Did you get a CD with this router? If so has it got a user guide on it? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Tried to follow instructions on cd but its not going the same as the instructions
I dont get any options just enter username and password then all the options I get is reboot router or reboot and save. Nothing like what the instructions say. when I select either option it get

The easiest is to use automatic setup provided by C&W as suggest if exist .. otherwise you need to set the security configuration manually..
If you can get into router setup page, you should be able to see a page like the one you could find here:
http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/CableNWireless/ADSLR10CW3/ADSLR10CW32.jpg
Click on the "Wireless Configuration" icon after you've logon to the router page (admin/1234). The rest I guess you should be able to figure it out based on albertross post up above.0
