Please Help getting desperate

Is there anyway at all that I can change to a different PCT or at least change just to a different NHS mental Heath service provider.

I went to the one my PCT sent me two at least 2 times in the last five years and I got worse. My GP refered me to a CMHT at a hospital but my PCT rejected it as its out of area. I dont know what to do anymore i am so depressed. All I have is the A+E department which I visit a few times.

I don't know what to do I do self-harm myself but only as i am desperate for help.

Is there anyway that I can overturn the PCT decision, and make them accept by doctors decision.

I went to the local A+E (run by my PCT) yesterday where the Doctor suggested suicide as a option, and yes i am being serious.

in my opinion they are all about as crap as each other

all i get is a cpn visiting my every 2 weeks and i get to go to a young persons therapy group on mondays. i see a psychiatrist every 2-3 months.

what sort of help like that do you get at the moment and what more would you like?

all resources are stretched. there isnt much more the mental health teams can offer

No help other then lots of pills now im on Duloxetine today, yesteday was on Mirtazapine, 2-3 weeks before was on something else and a month before that something else again.

No therapies I went to my PCT one before only for them to miss lots of appointments and keep saying its no good for me, and I shouldn't follow the exercise.

Dont know what a cpn is.

a cpn is a community psychiatric nurse who is your care coordinator

you might have one but might not know about if if youve only ever seen them once or twice. you can ask them to see you/or you can see them.

if you dont have one, you can request one.

im assuming because your medications change a lot that you do see a psychiatrist. you should speak to your psych about requesting a cpn/care coordinator.

if you think you need therapy, write a letter to the head of your local mental health services saying you think the decision is wrong and you do need help

you have to stand your ground with these people, it took me ages to secure the young peoples group and i didnt have a cpn until i was already in the system for a bit.

there isnt any magical help they can provide sadly, mental health seems like an after-thought of the nhs.

you can get a cpn and some sort of talking therapy though, but thats about it

Thanks for your reply. Il be looking out for a CPN.

I don't have a psychiatrist due to the problems mentioned on the first post all I get is tablets from my GP.

The problem is a out-of-area issue and the PCT guidelines, is there a way I could challenge these, and I need something quick as suffering badly at times.

Is there not anything in the Human Rights Act, Mental Health Act, Hational Health Service Act so that I can complain to the ombusman about these guide lines and get seen by a hospital.

It amazes me the PCT have never seen me yet make decisions, that effect my life and goes against my GP. They say go private well if thats what they can offer then I hope they don't expect me to pay into NHS if I am ever able enough to work.

No wonders they are murders outthere on the street mostly due to mental ill person. Now im not like that but I am mostly likely to hurt myself then ever hurt anyone else, although I do wonder that the prison service probably offers better mental Health services

the cloisest thing to an indipendent complaint or ombudsman is PALS the patient liason service by the nhs.. they are semi indipendent and can help fight your case and they are the people you can make a complaint to about the mental health services/pct or get them to provide assistance to you (a bit like the citizens advice berau)

    http://www.pals.nhs.uk/

    find your local pals: http://www.pals.nhs.uk/members/officeSearch.aspx

they often have a 'drop in' in certain places too where you can chat to them without an appointment. my local drop in is the local mental hospital lol

PCTs will remain (and some have already changed their name away from being a PCT) but will be streamlined. There has already been a merger of several areas in London for PCTs. Unfortunately the PCT that is responsible for you is the one in which you reside, you cannot go to another unless you are either sent by your own one or move house.

There was a case in the paper recently where a woman with a certain form of cancer moved house just so she could go to an area that she thought might be more sympathetic.

Some pCTs do purchase care in other areas and if it is an unusual request it goes via a committee that includes lay people as well as clnicians. You can always ask for a second opinion but since mental health services are often shared across several PCTs via a wider Mental health trust you will almost certainly get the same response.
