Playing AVI file on Macbook Pro

I have the latest Macbook Pro Laptop and trying to play a video file that is currently saved under an AVI format. I have tried VLC Video Player, my DIVX won't play it and the Quicktime and Realplayer won't either?!?!

Help with this would be great! And please speak English and not computer language

I'd re-download the file if VLC won't play it. Chances are its corrupted.

Agreed, you don't say where it came from etc, but VLC can even play or repair some corrupted stuff, so your AVI file definately sounds duff.

Assuming it's not corrupted, see what format is is and download the codecs you need.

Can i also suggest MPlayer as a companion to VLC, i find with those two combined there is nothing that won't play except for some Legacy PC only codecs that have no mac/linux equivalent.

You could install Perian and use that to see if it works

I've only ever needed this and Flip4mac for Video files to work in Quicktime in general.

I only use flip4mac and VLC too - and have never come accross a file i couldn't play - unless it was corrupted.
