I've just come back from a walk to the kitchen to find OH has left a little pile of change in there......

That'll be going in the holiday jar then - since he rarely sets foot in the kitchen, he'll never miss it!!!

My son found £10 in an amusement arcade once. We were on holiday with best friend & her family - both single parents & skint, so we made him take us for afternoon tea..... still feel guilty about it;)

(What a bargain that holiday was - Sun £9.50 deal, arrived at camp to find on fire, sent to site down the road for free dinner, put up on what had been 1st choice site, upgraded carvan. Next day letter under door apologising for inconvenience and giving full refund!!! Must do it again some time.... once I find my matches......)

My Dad's in his mid 70's, every afternoon he takes a walk into our local town looking for things. He keeps a written record of what he finds and logs everything.

All coins found are donated to the local Hospice (my mum died there). £86 last year. :T

All notes are donated to keeping him warm in winter. (he's found £15 this month alone).

He's also found wallets, purses, credit cards, rings, watches and a lovely saphire and diamond braclet - all these he hands in at the local police station.

It his entertainment, and he say's he NEVER doesn't find anything.

Just beware leaving your empty trolly unattended at the supermarket with a £1 in though - he's been know to tidy them up too!

Love your story researcher.....what a top bloke he sounds!!!!!:D :D
  • I always pick up coins in the street, and seem to find them quite regularly (haven't found any notes yet!). I used to feel a bit embarrassed doing it when I was younger, but soon got over that - it's free money after all! :j

I made a profit on the way home from work last night. I was swithering and dithering over whether or not to invest £1.05 on my bus fare home, despite it being a lovely evening (but I did have a bulky, although not heavy, bag to carry).

I decided to walk, and picked up a 2p coin on my way home. Not a fortune admitedly, but still an extra 2p in my change bottle!

My absolute favourite "find" though was years and years ago. My boyfriend at the time and I had a "thing" whereby I claimed all the change he got from a transaction (he was a cash only man). I usually netted a couple of pence, sometimes, if I was lucky, I'd get 20p.

However, we were holidaying in Wales and went on a minature railway. He paid for 2 x 80p fares with a £20 note. His bad luck just had it that the ticket office had no notes, so gave him all his change in 50p coins. That was a good day for me.

My 5 yr old is so good at this, that he beats me to it and saves it all in his blue pig! (We then count and bank quarterly).

In the supermarket a couple of months back, a guy dropped a load of change at the checkout, just as we were walking past..so my son tells him and the guys says he can keep the coins that he's dropped..he got over £3.

Think the guy was too embarrassed to pick them up!

Ok I’m going back some years now whilst on holiday in Ios, Greece before the Euro was introduced. I had gone for an early morning snorkel in the sea, came across a note floating on the bottom so I dived down to pick it up. Carried on swimming, found another, then another and so on, stuffing them into my shorts whilst going along. I couldn’t believe how many notes I was finding and still finding more. In the end I was confidant I couldn’t find any more and came back out to dry them out and show my friends – it totalled over £50 in the end. The drinks were on me…

True story but never found anything like it since. I still have no idea how it got there.

:rotfl: I wonder if either of you'd say that if your supermarket trolley disappeared  .

Dad had me in stitches one day explaining that he's found this abandoned trolley with £1 in, so he pushed it to the exit, only for a lady to rush after him saying "excuse me, I think you've made a mistake". He was soooo embarrassed that he said "NO, I don't think so", and walked off :o I am SO glad I wasn't there, I'd have died.

But yes, he's a good man - and my dog adores him!
