Can my L/L charge me for an inventory?

Although our landlady has a full management service with the agent we're renting through, she wants to charge £150 for preparing an inventory at the termination of the tenancy and for us 'to pay to the landlord any additional expenses incurred in checking the said inventory'. The property is a 4-bed part-furnished flat in Brixton. She is using another company called JR Consultancy for the inventory. Can she really charge us 150+ quid for this?

yes she can.... were you not told about this before you signed the agreement ?

it is quite common for the T to pay for one inventory and the LL to pay for the final one (or the other way round)

    £150's a bit steep - that's a whole week's takehome pay to a lot of people.

Not if you are a letting agent.

As Clutton says, some LLs do use an inventory clerk , with each party paying one set of fees.

However, I would challenge her (& strike a line through the specific wording) on t e bits that says 'to pay to the landlord any additional expenses incurred in checking the said inventory'.

IMO you cannot be asked to sign up to what is in essence an open ended invoice from the LL. Why on earth would there be "additional expenses occurred" if you are already paying a "check out fee"?
