Santander ATM Error

I withdrew £10 GBP from a proper ATM (Ulsterbank or RBS to you guys in the rest of the UK) not one of those convenience ones in Northern Ireland with my Santander VISA debit card in Strabane only to get home to find i'd been charged £10.28 for withdrawing the money.

I know this machine is on the Link and I have used it for years and am 100% it doesn't charge for UK withdrawals.

I called Santander up and they told me the withdrawal was an International withdrawal as Ireland was International.

She then told me it was a Cirrus charge, I pointed out that the card is Plus not cirrus and the machine is part of the Link so wrong on both counts.

She then proceeded to tell me that the Machine was not in the UK, so i've obviously been living in the wrong country without knowing it.

She REFUSED to refund the 28p and said there was nothing they could do, and if I used it again i'd be charged.

So annoyed, they really are as rubbish as everyone says

Thats the last straw i'm off.

Strabane is Northern Ireland, and very definitely a part of the UK!

Depends on whether you've crossed the river or not- if you did and the ATM was there, that's Ireland.

It was @ ASDA most definitely in the North. I withdrew £10 not 10 Euro.

tell them that you'll take the case to the ombudsman on principle if they think that Northern ireland is a "foreign country"
